Improve your English writing with expert teaching

Our English writing course is for adults who want to improve their English writing skills for study or work. You will learn all aspects of writing in English, from brainstorming ideas and creating outlines to structuring paragraphs, and writing essays and reports. Because this course is face to face, you get immediate and personalised feedback on your writing, and improve quickly.

What you will get from this English writing course:

  • You will build your English writing skills for study and work by doing practical writing tasks. These include writing a business letter, various types of email, essays and reports.
  • You will learn how to write different types of paragraphs suited academic and professional topics.
  • You will be able to express your ideas and opinions clearly and professionally in written English.
  • You will expand your English vocabulary and improve your grammatical accuracy in your English writing.

What you will study in 10 weeks:

Weeks 1-2: Writing Foundations

  • Structure and development of academic paragraphs, including paragraphs in opinion-based "for and against" essays.
  • Structure and outline of an essay, focusing on writing effective introductions and conclusions.

Weeks 3-5: Analytical Writing

  • Comparison and contrast paragraphs in data analysis, including comparative grammatical structures, transitional phrases, comparative adjectives, and adverbs.
  • Writing about cause and effect, focusing on structure and clarity.
  • Writing about processes, using the passive voice, time sequencers, and appropriate present and past tenses.

Weeks 6-10: Professional Communication

  • Emails – Writing introductions, giving and requesting information.
  • Emails – Handling complaints effectively.
  • Writing proposals – Structure, content, and functional language.
  • Writing memos – Format and purpose.
  • Business reports – Organisation, overviews, executive summaries, findings, recommendations, and conclusions.

  • Pre-intermediate level and above
