British Council Thailand is pleased to invite you to attend a special public lecture on " Maritime law in context. Payment of hire in time charters: The law, the practice, the advocate" by Professor Filippo Lorenzon, LLD (Italy) LLM (Soton), Avvocato (Italy) and (n.p.) Solicitor in England & Wales, Professor of Maritime and Commercial Law, University of Southampton. The lecture will be about 45-60 minutes long and this will be followed by a Q&A session, debate and general conversation.

Prof. Flippo will be covering the key points below:

  • Maritime law and maritime lawyers: The role they play in the industry;
  • A recent example of law in context: Payment of hire;
  • The law of hire and the global crisis;

  • The practical concerns and the legal issues at stake;
  • The Astra v Spar Shipping: Conflicting decisions in a global market
