We are pleased to announce that the 2024 Call for Papers for the 11th New Directions in Language Assessment East Asia conference is now open. We invite proposals that address the main conference theme and focus in particular on our four conference strands.

Conference Theme and Strands

Theme: The power of language assessment on individuals and society

Strands:

1. English language policy, learning systems and assessment 

2. Policy and society

3. English alongside other languages

4. Technology and AI: Policy, practice and implications

Conference Dates

The conference will convene in person on 21-23 November in Bangkok, Thailand. Parallel sessions will take place on Friday and Saturday.

Conference Format

New Directions East Asia 2024 will take place as a face-to-face conference in Bangkok, Thailand, and will feature different themes with plenary talks or discussions on each of the topics. Sessions may be recorded and shared online a few weeks after the event. 

Presenters who wish to be part of the conference will be required to present in person in Bangkok, Thailand, in parallel break-out sessions organised at the venue.

Presentations slots are 20 mins long with an additional 10 mins available for questions and answers.

Travel advice and accommodation recommendations will be made available but no funding for accepted speakers is available at this time.

Registration fee

Accepted paper presenters will receive a registration voucher and can register for no fee. Non-speaking attendees will need to register and pay the registration fee. Registration opens in September. Please check the website or sign up to the mailing list for updates.
